We are beyond thrilled to announce that our Digital Her programme won the Diversity and Inclusion Initiative of the Year award at Computing’s Women in Tech Excellence Awards this week.
The Digital Her programme has been running since 2018 and encourages girls and women to consider a career in the tech industry and supports them throughout their whole career.
So far, we’ve reached over 7000 girls and women - and we have very exciting plans for 2025!
We’d also love to thank every one of our 386 Real Role Models, especially those who have given their own time to share their experiences and their career journeys at our events. Our motto is ‘If she can see it, she can be it’ so all of these stories really inspire young women to look into a tech career and importantly to empower them with the knowledge and confidence to progress forward.
We’d love to thank our sponsors for all their support. Without them supporting with action, not just words, the impact and reach of Digital Her wouldn't be possible:
Booking.com; Deloitte; AtkinsRéalis; Auto Trader; Global Logic; 6 Point 6| Part of Accenture; AJ Bell Futures Foundation and GFT.
Roxy Stafford, Programme and Events Manager at Manchester Digital heads up the Digital Her programme and said: “We’re so pleased that the Digital Her initiative has been recognised at this important industry awards ceremony last night, along with many other inspiring women and initiatives.
“We put such a huge amount of hard work into developing and growing our programme and ensuring that women and girls can see the benefits of a career in tech, so it’s great to have that recognised.”
Emma Grant, Head of Programmes at Manchester Digital, added, “Women are still hugely under-represented in the tech industry and we still have lots more work to do. We still required funding from sponsorship in order to grow the initiative so we hope that by shining a light on our work, more tech businesses across Greater Manchester will step up and get involved.”
This year, Digital Her has run a huge variety of different events, including International Women’s Day, Ada Lovelace Day, DTX Manchester, and a series of industry insights days for schools, colleges and career switchers. We also launched our second cohort of the MentorHER programme with 20 pairs of mentors and mentees, and also launched our new leadership programme, EnableHER, with 20 women enrolled.
As part of next year’s Digital Skills Festival, Digital Her Day takes place on Tuesday, 11th February and will also shine a spotlight on the vibrant diversity within our region’s tech sector. In addition to that, Season 2 of the Digital Her podcast is out in December.
We rely on sponsorship to run this inspiring programme for women so if you want to be a part of an award-winning initiative and help encourage more women into the tech industry, please get in touch.
